Avatar is a science fictionalfilm written and directed by James Cameron in the year 2009. The film is set in the year 2154, when a human colony has been established on a distant planet called Pandora. Humans have engaged in penetrating Pandora for a precious mineral known as unobtanium. However, their plans were desisted by an indigenous race called the Na’vi, whose village is resting right on top of the rare ore they need. Human scientists have found a way to transport the brain of a person into a special crafted Na'vi body called an avatar. The scientists, led by Grace, are committed to keeping conflict at a distance, but the military, led by Colonel, sees the Na'vi as vicious savages who hate our human way of life.While discovering the …show more content…
This film targets a variety of topics including imperialism, to racism with alien natives. This essay will evaluate themain subject of the film and analyzing criticism. Avatar is undeniably a product of colonialism. James Cameron writes "People have traveled to Pandora to take something that belongs to the Na'vi their land and the minerals under it”. It shows the Na'vi as the relatively harmlessenvironmentally respectful indigenous population, while the humans are a corporate militarywho left their planet to search the resources of Pandora. The film presents a military narrative, labeling the soldiers as cruel, violent, and brainless savages. All of them are males, except for a female, who defects to the good side after rejecting violent action against the native population.
Avatar is also a racial fantasy.Mo’at said “We have tried to teach other sky people, it is hard to fill a cup which is already full”.
