It consisted between the beliefs of Militarism, a policy of glorifying military power and keeping a standing army always prepared for war (Ch.13 Sec 1), Alliances, a union or association formed for mutual benefit, especially between countries, Imperialism, a policy in which a strong nation seeks to dominate other countries politically, economically, and socially, and Nationalism, a belief that people should be loyal mainly to their nation/country (Ch. 13 Sec 1), thus making up …show more content…
It seemed logical, at the time, that every man in Europe, or anywhere in general, wanted to take pride in their country. Nowadays, the movies show Nationalism both subliminally and explicitly. Whether it’s for their family, a friend, or their country, men or women show pride. Back then, propaganda, material spread to advance a cause or damage an opponent's cause, was used to “lure” men into joining the war (Ch.13 Sec 3 pt.2). Based on pictures, the posters would have a strong animal or a nation’s leader with a bold saying like, “ I want you for the U.S. Army” or “Save a loaf of bread and help win the war.” (Google Images) Propaganda is still being used in modern day life. Nationalism could both be a good idea or a bad idea. It cost 8.5 million soldiers lives, including the 2 million American troops (Ch.13 Sec 3 pt.2). There were two original alliances that were formed that were involved in the war: the Triple Alliance, which included Germany, Austria-Hungary, and Italy, and the Triple Entente, which included Great Britain, France, and Russia (Ch.13 Sec 1). The Triple Entente seemed to be stronger than the Triple Alliance, as some would say, because Russia joined an alliance with France (Ch.13 Sec 1). According to Document B, the selection of the Alliances were known as “The Crime of the Ages”. Since Italy switched sides in 1915, it affected Germany and Austria-Hungary. In the picture, it explained how the Triple Entente blamed Germany while the Triple Alliance, except for Italy, blamed Russia and Serbia. The Central Powers and the Triple Alliance were the same nations, but instead of Italy, the Ottoman Empires were added and the Allies were the same as the triple Entente (Ch.13 Sec 2). In Document A, there is a question that asks if the fear of Germany having to one day fight a war on two borders was justified. It wouldn’t because Germany is a part of an alliance and that would mean that more countries would get involved in the war and to try and defend Germany.
