INTRODUCTION TO BLOOD TYPING AND THE IMPORTANCE OF BLOOD TYPING

Blood; this is the life of humans and animals, blood carries a lot of important substances the primary substance blood is “used” for is to transport oxygen and nutrition’s to all the bodies vital organs. Blood also is a vital heat provider in the body keeping those needed areas warm and filters toxic substances that are not needed in the body.
The production of blood cells take place in the stem cells located in the bone marrow, after development they are then released into the bloodstream of the body. For transportation of oxygen to take place in the blood you need there to be a protein called Haemoglobin this protein is and iron-bearing protein thus allowing oxygen to be transported

Blood typing is the procedure where your blood is withdrawn and tested to determine what blood type you have, this test is to see what types of proteins the blood consists of or antigens. There are four groups or types of blood you get, they are categorised as type A, B, AB and O. the reason for testing the blood type is to prepare when necessary a transfusion or transplant and having the blood type to be compatible with another. Examples of the antigen types are that ABO consists of sugars and RH of proteins. (Dean L.Bethesda)

The antibodies that are present in blood types; there are four blood type groups; A, B, AB, O
In each blood type there are antibodies. In the blood type A there would be B antibodies causing a reaction towards the blood type b and AB. In the blood type b the antibodies available would be A antibodies and AB antibodies causing the A blood type to have an reaction towards the A and AB blood group. The O blood type will have a reaction to all of the above so it has antibodies for A type, B Type and AB type.
The only blood type that has not got antibodies towards other blood type is the AB blood type this type has antigens for all the above blood type, the A blood type the B blood type the AB blood type and the O blood types no reaction will occur during a blood transfusion of these blood types with regards to and AB receiving a blood transfusion from all the blood types. In the following image beneath is an example of the blood type compatibilities. (Goodnough
