In the Crucible preserving one's reputation is crucial it don’t matter who you turn your back on. The people in this play would rather be seen as the model citizen, then tell the truth. It don’t matter if they have to lie to save their reputation, they will do it. They would even go to the extent of letting people die to make sure their good name stays intact.
The main people who are concerned about their reputation their own family is Thomas Proctor , Reverend Parris, and Judge Danforth. John Proctor is made out to be the model citizen he has good morals, and he is very stuck in his ways. John Proctor has worked very hard to build his good name,He has worked hard enough that he would not do anything to sacrifice his good name.
