Though out history, there have been a great deal of things that have directly affected the future of the United States. During the 1700’s there were a lot of influential events that occurred that forevermore changed the way the United States was to be. Events such as the Civil War and the Lewis and Clark Expedition (1803) molded the resources, the ideals, and the space that America had to expand her greatness. The Civil War was essential in the fact that it helped to show that our nation could be at great odds and still remain together in the end. It also solved various social and political problems; problems by which the U.S. would not have been able to overcome had the war not occurred (slavery). There were also many other events that help to carve out what the U.S. was and what it stood for. One of these things was the tale of the great inventor, Eli Whitney and how he change the cotton industry, henceforth changing the issue about slavery, and revolutionizing the American industry with his idea of interchangeable parts. He essential remade the American industry by introducing interchangeable parts and the cotton gin. Even today, his ideas have still had a long-lasting effect on the way things are produced. All things mechanical are produced using interchangeable parts and use an assembly line (Henry Ford). This is what makes it so easy to go in and get a part fixed on your car or your gun for that matter. They simply replace it with another part that looks exactly the same. Back in the day, you needed a skilled craftsman in order to replace or the fix something and the prices was typically not very cheap. He made not only the production faster, but the cost greatly decrease as well.
