This is a very interesting subject and this problem is happening around the globe, especially in watershed areas that rain a lot and involve main rivers. This past summer we had an increase in flash floods in Colorado. Many agricultural areas were involve in moving suspended sediments around, ending up in rivers taking all these sediment to other areas. Not only agricultural sediments are involve during these flash flood events. We also have storm water carrying a lot of contamination from regular household waste and from industrial areas. All these sediment, contaminants, chemicals, etc. will end up affecting the water quality.
The best management practice is have a secondary containment place to hold those sediments from reaching
