Both documents show how innocent poor people or African Americans were dehumanized and treated with no respect. Both Mittelberger and Falconbridge had some deep personal insight on what went on throughout their experiences. Shown in figures 1 and 2 the message that is sent through the beholders eye should be very emotional. Both were just seen as a privilege to land owners. Both were also claimed not to be free because of the contracts they both had to be in. Mittelberger says “One person receive place of scarcely 2 feet width and 6 feet length in the bedstead, while most ships carry six hundred souls” (Mittelberger 2) Figure 2 shows this to be very inhumane and to send the message of how poorly these people were treated and were caged like animals. This figure shows that the emotional dispute that Mittelberger had for the indentured servants and was shown that he didn’t think that the space was too bad, but in all reality it was inhumane. Falconbridge claims “in endeavoring to get to them, tumble over their companions, in consequence of them being shackled.” (Falconbridge 2) In figure 1 this shows the resemblance of the slaves being so close together like animals they have no room to move at all which is inhumane. The pictures help display what Falconbridge and Middelberger’s message is throughout the documents and helps shows the journey of an unfortunate human being. These are people and they are getting treated like cargo as shown in the picture. The voyages of these two were similar but still uniquely
