The “Indian Burying Ground” is a short poem in the lyric style consisting of forty lines, imaginatively and illustriously describing a American Indian rite of burial. Freneau starts off in his opening stanza by lamenting the Western method of burying the dead, in a position that only exemplify and emphasize the woeful reality of lifelessness.
