In most sports there are breaks throughout the season, in dance that is not the case. Dancers dedicate themselves to put in everything they have, even if it means dancing on existing injuries. As a result of the overuse of injuries dancers can have permanent damage that can effect their dancing. “Dancers must build strength, flexibility, coordination, endurance, and specific dance techniques” (Hernandez). To gain the skills in dance a dancer has to not only practice with the team, but also on their own. Practicing is what make every movement perfect. Without teamwork and every dancer dedicating themselves the team nothing would get accomplished. Every little detail matters. Just like in any other sport the more a team practices the better they get (Valliant 24). The drive to get better also creates a drive to stay in shape. Staying in shape makes dancing a little less challenging. There are multiple classes a dancer must take adding up to multiple hours of training a week. Along with the practices, dancers practice their technique and routines outside of class. A dedicated dancer will spend more time practicing then many other sports (“Without a Doubt”). Dance is a sport. It is competitive, physically challenging, and takes a certain level of skill. The amount of mental dedication that has to be put into dance is overwhelming. Along with the mental dedication there physical dedication making sure you stay fit and strong. “Dance is a sport and an artistic form at the same time”
