We will begin by visiting the Parthenon on the Acropolis in Athens. The Parthenon was built in 447 B.C., and is one of the most influential buildings in the history of architecture. This monument served as a temple to worship the Greek Goddess, Athena. At some time, the Parthenon housed an ivory and gold statue of Athena, however, the original statue has been lost to history.
Next, we will visit the Venus de Milo on display at the Louvre Museum in Paris. The Venus de Milo, often called the Aphrodite of Melos, is a slightly larger than life marble statue standing at 6’8”. This statue was not discovered until the 1820’s, where the arms and original plinth were already missing. The Venus de Milo is most famous for its missing arms and beautifully captures the harsh realism and nature of the human body.
On our last day, we will visit Rome! We will first visit the famous Roman Colosseum. Built with concrete and originally faced with marble, the Colosseum is an inextricable part of our global landscape and culture. The Colosseum was built as a sports stadium that hosted mostly gruesome events and could hold as many as 55,000
