Alexander Martin was born at Lebanon, Amwell Township, Hunterdon County in New Jersey in 1740. He was the oldest out of his family, during his childhood his father was a farmer. However not that much information is known about his family but as a young lad Alexander moved around a lot with his mother and father. Alexander attended Francois Alison academy at New, London Connecticut. After attending the Francois academy he then transferred to Newark academy, when Alexander graduated he moved to Cumberland, Virginia to find his path in life. At the time in Virginia ALex discovered his passion for teaching, the perfect idea for him was to be a tutor. The next year in 1760 Alexander became a merchant. Alexander arrived at the committee on May 25 but soon departed in August on the 25, he never returned to the committee again. Many of his colleagues say Alexander was a good politician but he wasn’t the speaker type of person. He wasn’t part of the team you can say because he didn’t contribute any ideas at all. The only participation Alexander Martin ever did in his was to be one of North Carolina first senators through 1793 to 1799. Alexander was one of the five North Carolina delegates to be part of the constitutional convention, out of all the five delegates Alexander was the least strongly federalist. He didn’t take part in any of the action in the meetings and no participation in active debates, because he had limited skill in public speaking and left before the constitution was ever even
