Informed consent of the client. A fundamental ethical principle and legal requirement in medical practice. Informed consent is defined as the process in which patients are educated by healthcare providers on the risks, benefits, and alternatives to a certain procedure or intervention (Shah et al., 2023). According to the AMA, providers must present relevant information about treatment, evaluate the patient's ability to comprehend the information, and document it once consent is obtained or declined. The AMA helps ensure ethical standards are followed; however, there are other legal regulations that are associated with informed consent. There are both State and Federal laws that help regulate informed consent and hospital-specific regulations.
