Ingraham V. Wright a case that appeared in front of the U.S. Supreme court on April 19, 1977. The case revolved around an eight-grade student that was paddled by principal Willie J. Wright while he was being restrained by the assistant principal. Ingraham was hit more than 20 times that he required medical attention after. The complaint was filed on behalf of Ingraham and another student at the school who had been paddled as well. They claimed that corporal punishment violated the Eight Amendment, however court ruled against it because it believed that it did not violate any of the US Amendments or Law. Today, nineteen US states currently allow corporal punishments in schools.
