Walter was unjustly sentenced to the death penalty and had finally been freed,“He sometimes complained of nightmares.” (Stevenson, 210) This shows his experience on death row clearly traumatized him. He had nightmares remembering the time he had there, even though he never should have been there. Walter would remember this pain his whole life, because of the impact of inhumanity. Elie Wiesel was a Jewish prisoner in a concentration camp during the Holocaust. He had witnessed so much death and inhumanity, it didn't phase him anymore. After liberation, he was left broken,“My soul had been invaded and devoured by a black flame.” (Wiesel, 371) The inhumanity made him feel less than human, and worthless. His trauma, evident through his lack of emotion. The impact of inhumanity broke and harmed him, and it is nearly impossible to recover. The movie shows the rigorous trial of escaping the endless horrors of the camp. Prisoners were constantly being punished with death, especially after attempting to escape, “We're going to kill these 13 men while you watch, but we're going to do more than that. We're going to allow each of these men the privilege of selecting one of you as his partner in death.” (Hour 1, minute 6, Escape from Sobibor) Death was common at the camps, and being a prisoner meant you were one step closer to death. Prisoners were caught and killed for their religion, an awful example of inhumanity. Innocent people's lives were cut short because of the impacts of inhumanity and the harm it causes.
