Insanity
INTRODUCTION
Lead in: Twenty seven words from the constitution has been the subject of many arguments, debates, and discussions.
Bridge 1: “A well-regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.” I feel this amendment should be amended. Amendment doesn’t mean eradicated.
Bridge 2: Amendment simply means change or alters; some definitions even say a slight or small change. Albert Einstein said, “Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.” The same laws are being followed over and over without change, and expecting the mass killings and wrongful deaths to cease. A change needs to come a change must come. Not doing so is insanity.
THESIS STATEMENT: Being a black women growing up in an unsafe neighborhood and understanding and respect the constitution however I do not feel that that civilians should have the right to bear arms.
Main Idea 1. As a black female from rural Alabama, an area historically known for racial violence, I support defending ones person even if that defense involves a weapon.
A.) I don’t condone a citizen possessing a weapon that does the same things a military weapon does. Citizens only need those types of weapons if they are once again going to wage war on each other.
B.) BThe last time citizens decided to wage war on each other the government intervened. Once again the government needs to intervene.
C.) The people are not being protected.
Transition statement: To not intervene is sanity. The same Constitution that gives citizens the right to bear arms also declares to protect the people.
Main Idea 2. As a current resident of Colorado I am in favor of the amending the second amendment, as much as I would be if I still lived in Alabama.
A.)The theater being shot up is one reason, and the school is another. I would like the right to protect myself, but I would also like to know that those that have sworn to protect me will not be facing someone with the same ammunition they have or better.
B.) Leaving the laws the same without placing some type of restriction on the type of machinery individuals are allowed to use is insane.
C.) Insanity, insanity, insanity, which is what most of the shooters attorneys and doctors declare, that is if they are not cowards to the end and shot themselves.
Transition: Things seem to only change for the worse because the laws have not changed.
Main Idea: Saint Augustine said, “One has not only a legal but a moral responsibility to obey just laws. Conversely, one has a moral responsibility to disobey unjust laws.
A.) I would agree with St. Augustine that “an unjust law is no law at all.” A law that allows someone the freedom to gun down innocent babies and riddle their bodies as if rag dolls is an unjust law.
B.) This country was founded and gained its independence by men who believed that individuals should have and receive justice in all
