The internal age clock considers a person turning eighteen years old and graduating from high school the time of entering adulthood; from there, different phases of life will let us know whether we are on target with the appropriate stages that are expected to occur. For instance, marriage, starting a family, and a career is said to be normal events that take place early on in adulthood. However, today, many people are holding off on the more traditional events, which calls for some adjustments to be made within the age clock (Dunn & Craig, 2013, p. 334).
