First of all, this is the summary of the Reading .Reading1 (Robbins, Bergman, Stgg&Coulter2009) is talking about the globalization of nowadays business. This reader covers so many areas of the business globalization. First, the author made an introduction of the globalization at the beginning of the reader. Briefly introduce the change of market and business environment in Australia and New Zealand in the past 30 years. After that, the author focus on the global perspective area, he thinks that under the globalization, manager must to consider learning additional languages because companies in a globalized business world increasingly need personnel with technical or professional skills plus another language. Apart from that, the author also mentions that Parochialism is a significant obstacle for a manager working in a global business world and the three possible global attitudes, which is “Ethnocentric attitude”, “Polycentric attitude” and “Geocentric attitude”(p126). And this reader stills mention that the global trade is being shaped by two forces that’s regional trading alliances and the agreements negotiated through the World Trade Organization and then explains these two forces. Then, the author uses a lot of page to explain that how the company do the business globally and list out different types of international organization. For example, there have Multidomestic Corporation, global company and transnational or borderless organization. Moreover, the author explains how Australian and New Zealand companies going international and gave a lot of example. Lastly, the author explains the challenges of nowadays company when they are doing business globally, the different business environment and culture etc… Moreover, the Reading 2(Salacuse 1999) is talking about the Intercultural Negotiation in International Business. The author mentions that “In international business, transactions not only cross borders, they also cross cultures. Culture profoundly influences how people think, communicate and behave” Salacuse,(1999)(p.217) that’s mean in the negotiation; cultural is a very important part. Therefore, the author define the nature of culture at the beginning of the reader 2 ,as the socially transmitted behavior patterns, norms, beliefs and values of a given community, and the elements of culture .For example , there have behavior ,attitudes, norms and values . After that, the author mentions some effects if there have different culture during the negotiation. For example, two parties can create misunderstandings in communication, difficulties in understanding words and interpreting actions, influence the form and substance of deal you are trying to make by cultural consideration .Moreover, the author use a lot of paragraph to explain the ten factors in deal making such as negotiating attitude, negotiating goal, personal style, sensitivity to time and emotionalism etc…and gave the statistics proof on each factor. Last but not least, after the author shown us the importance of cultural difference in international business negotiations, than he listed three rules for how to cope with them. The three rules were “Learn the other side’s culture”, Don’t Stereotype” and” Find ways to bridge the culture gap”(pp.232-233),let you know how to cope with different culture in the negotiations.
