Roundworms are intestinal parasites. They are found in different many animals especially dogs and cats. Each animal has a specific roundworm to their species. Almost all dogs become infected at some point of their lives but usually as puppies. Roundworms can be caught many different ways but hard to control.
Dogs usually get roundworms from the time they are born because it is passed on from the mother from when it was still in her body. Roundworms can also be developed after they are born because they eat larvest eggs or drinks worm larvae in the mother's milk. They can also be caught when the roundworms are in the tissue of a mouse or other small animals and the dog eats the animal. (Roundworms)
In puppies, larvae including those that are swallowed and ingested as eggs, migrate all through the body tissue. Once it has reached the lungs of the dog it makes its way up the windpipe where its coughed up, then it’s swallowed. But you can do many things to prevent them. First deworm your dog when he is a puppy, mainly before 3 weeks old. If your dog is a female treat her before she breeds and again when she is pregnant. Also keep the area where the dog sleeps, eat, and play clean to keep away roundworms. Also keep track of what your dog eats to make sure he doesn't eat any rodents or other species that can be infected. Make sure to throw away his poop properly and clean up after him in your yard and in the park. Is important to not let your dog use a playground or a sand box as a litter box. Keep your dog extremely away from small wild animals, it is preferred to keep him on a leash or in a fenced yard.
