Krakaur’s purpose in writing Into the Wild was to tell a story about Chris McCandless, portraying him as superior and enlightened in ways that didn’t seem to add up to his actions, leading him to add in chapter eight. The author’s purpose was to compare and contrast the actions of Chris to other adventurers who sought the same fulfillment as him, doing so until their inevitable end, meaning to deem Chris’ actions as sane.
