The title of the play, Trifles, encompasses tons of irony. Throughout the play, Mrs. Hale and Mrs. Peters are looking for the trifles rather than looking at the big picture like Mr. Hale. Along with the other women in the story, Mrs. Wright is also worried about the little things like her preserves and not how she is being held for the murder of her husband. With that being said, Trifles is a fitting name for the play. Although the title appears to be straightforward, it actually has a larger meaning with irony and symbolism. Since Mrs. Wright was more concerned with the condition of her preserves, Mrs. Hale and Mrs. Peters began to look at the little things in the house.
