She tries to answer the question, “Is college for everyone?” According to Pharinet, no, it is not for everyone. She writes about how many people currently attending colleges are truly not ready for the college experience and all of the weight going to college holds. She says that many people attending college are not “mature” enough to handle the responsibilities or the debt that accompanies a college education (680). Pharinet is not only stating this without offering any substitutes for furthering one’s education outside of college. She says that many people should consider options such as trade schools or seeking employment and maturing for about two years before committing to college (681). As a professor, Pharinet experiences first-hand how ill prepared some of her students are. Yes, she does make mention of alternatives to college and why college was not for everyone but her only real mention of the opposing view was in the final paragraph when she refers to the opposition as a group that enforces “political correctness” (682). She does not; however, state exactly what they may mean or what this group may believe in; other than “college is for everyone.” She should have considered placing opposing views in her paper and breaking them down showing what was faulty with the “college is for everyone” attitude. Pharinet does a good job presenting her opinions on the important topic “Is college for everyone?” She skillfully uses the rhetorical strategies patho sand ethos while being more direct when using logos. She helped make her paper more personal by relating the situation to her own life experiences. This helps Pharinet’s argument become more personal and assists with opening the minds of her audience to accepting her opinion. While presenting her opinion that college is not for everyone, she gave alternatives to college. Doing this shows that she actually wants this paper to help people instead of the paper seeming to condemn
