In the second and third millenniums, Gilgamesh is considered an epic hero. However, based on the standards of a hero right now I do not consider Gilgamesh a true hero. The fact that a hero should have something in common with the average person and must act on their own is what got me thinking about whether or not Gilgamesh is a hero. The companion that was created for Gilgamesh is who I really think is the true hero in the Epic Gilgamesh. Enkidu is the one who has a trait that is well known with the average person. "She treated him, a human, to woman's work, as in his ardor he caressed her. Six days, seven nights was Enkidu aroused, flowing into Shamhat" (1.184-186).
