In the article, “Gap in Diet Between Wealthiest and Poorest Americans Doubles, Study Finds” ,by Tracie McMillian, and article “Is Junk Food Really Cheaper?”,by Mark Bittman, both explain the diets between the wealthy and the poor, and the improvements that can be done. The diets of low- income people have worsened in the past decade, while the wealthier people’s diets have improved. Between 2005 and 2010, the progress of diet quality did not increase among the poor. The result: double of the gap diet and quality between the wealthy and the poor. Food stamps are one of many ways to promote health. Food stamps are like pre paid cards for grocery shopping. Michelle Obama at the time as First Lady, has made healthy diets a central focus on her campaign to end childhood obesity. As of now, two- thirds of Americans of all classes are overweight, but the higher rates are within the poor. Last fall, the FDA announced considering banning the fats in processed foods, a decade after the agency required that trans fat be listed clearly on food packages. Federal efforts to promote consumption of fruits, veggies, whole grains, meanwhile, have largely been confined to education and public service announcements. The article states, “If you want to change the American diet, you have to change the policy,” said Marlene Schwartz.
