Lady Tremaine treats Cinderella as a slave in the movie as a form of punishment. A Disney Wiki article states, "She has a sinister glare and is very cruel to Cinderella; an example is when she silences her harshly twice when ordering Cinderella to do chores in the chateau. She even does the same to Anastasia and Drizella occasionally." When this occurred, Cinderella tried explaining that she had already finished all the chores given but instead Lady Tremaine hushed her and asked her to re-do it. Her jealousy gets the best of her and it causes her to say or do things that'll make herself feel better. For example, Lady Tremaine allows her step-daughter to get picked on by her other daughters and does nothing about it because she feels like Cinderella deserves the cruelty. Disney Wiki says, "When she slyly noted that Cinderella fixed up her dress with the help of Drizella's beads and Anastasia's sash, her daughters took the initiative to rip Cinderella's dress to shreds.
