When in a situation where it is needed to do one’s best to survive, one can’t just sit around and wait for professional help. It’s hard to break the rules, yes, but by sitting around you’re putting your life in danger. Getting up and finding a way to survive could potentially save your life. The two examples of this are in the story, From Deep Survival. The author tells us about a plane crashing in the forest and everyone waiting for help besides a few people who find their own way to survive. “Meanwhile, the others who had lived through the fall decided to await rescue, which is not necessarily a bad idea either. But expecting someone else to take responsibility for your well-being can be fatal” (Gonzales). “In the World Trade Center disaster, many people who were used to following the rules died because they did what they were told by authority figures”(Gonzales). The first example tells us that it’s alright for you to sit and await rescue, but you would have a better chance at surviving if you help yourself. It’s not anyone's else's responsibility to save you, but yourself. The second example tells us that many people who awaited rescued died because they listened to authorities. Not everyone is right all the time, so if you believe they are wrong do what is right to you, it might just save your
