The American Dream was established in 1931, and it has remained the iconic perspective of the American lifestyle. However, over many decades, throughout the Great Depression two wars and a cold war globalization and to follow another close depression in 2007 and other historical events, The United States of America has changed. Throughout history the economy, the government, technology and invention, society, even culture has changed and most importantly the American Dream has changed as well.
Journalist Keli Goff wrote a blog on her stance about the American Dream. She explained that the American Dream is lost and outdated by persuading the readers that the dream has changed and is not based on articles that she has read. Goff states …show more content…
“USA Today calculated that subsidizing the American Dream costs approximately $130,000 annually, meaning the dream is only within reach for about 1 in 8 American families” (Goff). She goes on by using imagery of what the typical American Dream should be as the usual a white picket fence. According to the USA Today it refers to the American Dream as, having an affordable house by paying off your bills, educating two children and having a good car (Goff). This is used as a stereotype of the perfect life although some Americans perceive different goals, and look at the “perfect life” very differently.
