The retelling of the Bra Spider story had great significance to the culture and to Beah. This story is important to Ishmael Beah because it has been told throughout generations of his tribe, and retold in many different ways. Beah writes that he was “in shock” about an “extra detail [Musa] had added to the story” (page 74). We can infer from this that Beah had most likely previously heard the story in a different way, since he challenged the credibility of the version that Musa was telling. This particular story was about a spider who got greedy and wanted feasts from all the villages, so he instructed the villagers to pull the rope he had tied around his waist.
