In 1982, a complaint was filed by Ishmael Jaffree, the defendant of this court case. Jaffree's complaint was on behalf of his three children. All three of them attended public school in Mobile County, Alabama. His complaint stated that his kids had to experience and i in religious activities, such as daily prayer each day at school, as well as pausing for a moment of silence for one minute at the beginning of a school day. Federal court heard the case and ruled that Alabama’s law was constitutional and the state had the power to declare a state religion. Because of the first amendment, this is untrue.
