II. The violent conquests led by the Islamic empire gained territory and further expanded the empire.
a. In the Battle of Yarmuk, “[the] Greeks and their followers […] tied themselves to each other by chains”, and the “battle they fought […] was one of the fiercest and bloodiest” (al-Biladuri)
b. In 636 CE, Muslim forces gained control of Syria in The Battle of Yarmuk. This exemplifies how conquest allowed them to gain territory. In addition, this battle was described as fierce and bloody, showing how the conquests led by Muslim forces were violent. Though the empire expanded through violence,
