African Americans have been stereotyped for generations. The way we have been depicted to act and the way that the rest of the country portrays us has been well documented. The stereotypes have been well documented and the images that we find problematic have carried onto minstrel scenes that were acted out on stage for wide audiences. Those images have expanded to an array of mediums, from tv shows to even in web series. African American women have received a handful of stereotypes that they have been portrayed with: the mammy, the Jezebel, and the sapphire.

Season 2 of her episodes started being featured on Pharrell Williams’ i am OTHER YouTube channel. Williams, a rapper, singer, songwriter, record producer, and film producer launched the YouTube channel in 2012. The channel focuses on music, culture, fashion, and arts that are deemed to “outcasts.” Season two of Misadventures of Black Girl became one of two feature shows on the channel when the website launched. In 2012 with the launch of i am OTHER William and others were sending a statement that it was okay to be different and there a YouTube channel with the platform to provide its audience content that isn't considered traditional. There are shows that show same-sex romances, more intimacy between relationships. At this point in time, the internet is very important as a cultural medium for black people because there are very few YouTube channels that provide content that is made by and for black people.
