In It Happened One Night, Peter and Ellie must pretend to be a married couple, so it is socially acceptable for them to be sharing a room at the camp. Because they are actually strangers, Ellie is not comfortable sharing the room. Peter uses a blanket to separate the room and puts up “The Wall Of Jericho” to give her privacy (Image 1B). Before separating the room, Peter uses the sexual tension between the two of them to make Ellie even more uncomfortable. He begins undressing in front of her, knowing she would not turn away until he was partially undressed. By doing this, Peter gained control over the relationship and could manipulate the tension in his favor. In The Proposal, Andrew’s parents arrange for him and Margaret to share a bedroom and a bed. They instantly feel uncomfortable because they are not a real couple, therefore do not want to share a bed. Andrew creates a place on the floor to sleep and gives Margaret the bed (Image 2B). The next morning, Andrew’s family enters the room, so he and Margaret must lay in the bed together to maintain their fake relationship. This situation creates even more awkward tension between the two. Their tension remains to be an uncomfortable and almost detrimental part of their relationship, rather than something that used in a power
