As Ivan Pavlov once said, “Do not become a mere recorder of facts, penetrate the mystery of their origin” (“Ivan Petrovich Pavlov”). Ivan was determined to prove to himself that he would live up to these words. He spent the majority of his years researching a variety of science fields, constantly making new observations. Ivan Pavlov made discoveries that still impact the way that society lives and functions today. Ivan Petrovich Pavlov, born on September 26, 1849 in Russia, was a physiologist best known for developing the concept of Classical Conditioning. Growing up, his father, a scholarly priest at the time, taught Ivan to read all of the books that were worth his time at least twice. This allowed Ivan to truly understand the meaning behind the books that he read (“Ivan Pavlov”). This advice from his father played a large role in Ivan’s dedication to his work. Petersburg University in Russia. He went on to study natural sciences there. While studying, his professor of physiology, Élie de Zion, impacted Ivan the most. Between the two of them, there was a “mutual admiration for one another”. After graduating in 1875, Pavlov followed his admired professor to the Military Medical Academy located in St. Petersburg. Zion was the head of the physiology department here, and Ivan soon was upgraded to be the assistant to Zion. His main job was helping Zion in the laboratory. Zion was eventually fired because the academy learned that he was Jewish. Pavlov also decided to leave, and went on to attend the Veterinary Institute where he focused on circulation and digestion. His new interest in digestion led him to travel to Prussia in 1877 where he would study a specialist in digestion. He received his medical degree in 1879 and his postdoctoral degree in 1883 (“Ivan Petrovich
