This article discusses reading a nonsense poem from Lewis Carroll's book, Through the Looking-Glass and What Alice Found There. Jabberwocky's Song raises interesting literacy questions about the meaning of "reading". On the one hand, while I was "reading" aloud this poem I managed to articulate most of the words with fluency and rhythm. On the contrary, these words made no sense to me. I know that I'm not a native English speaker, so once we got the assignment to read a poem aloud, that led me to a pre-reading decision not to delay as much on words that I don't know their meaning. Therefore, while reading, Jabberwocky's Song's lyrics looked familiar and very English-like to me. My personal experience was exactly like what the article describes:
