The year was 2019 Jack Bauer had just finished his lifeless job at State Farm licking all of the paper envelopes shut. Jack had a very late shift, he had to be at work at 6:00 A.M. and he finished at 8:00 P.M. He worked in the dingy basement of a four story building in Mississauga, Ontario, surrounded by 100 other workers and most of them get paid more than Jack.
Jack got in his 2001 GMC Jimmy after a long day of work that has a smashed windshield that he cannot see from. This means Jack has to stick his head out the window so he can see where he is going.
Once he got to his lonely apartment, he found an envelope from Justice Canada in his mailbox about jury duty. Immediately his heart sank. A case can be up to a year long. State farm wouldn't have to pay him while he is gone. Immediately Jack emailed Justice Canada. He told them that jury duty would cause him undue hardship, because his life depends on his salary. Three days later he got a response that he would have to attend a jury duty lesson on January 17. This angered Jack, but he did not want to anger the government, so he decided to give it a try and he hoped it would be a short trial.
On January 17, he headed down to the Mississauga Courthouse in his best leather jacket and steel-toe boots. They all had to watch a extremely educational but boring video about all of the laws and rules. After that they had to take a test on what they had learned. It turned out that Jack and the other jurors would get a pay of 50 dollars a day while serving. All the Jurors would have to meet February 5th at the Mississauga courthouse.
