Robinson continued his education at University of California in Los Angeles. When Robinson was attending this University he was the first student to win varsity letters in 4 sports. In 1941 Robinson had to drop out of University as he was in
financial need. From that point on he went to Honolulu to play semi- football for the Honolulu Bears.

Robinson than joined the Montreal Royals which was a farm team for the Brooklyn Dodgers.
In 1946 Robinson moved to Florida to being Spring training with the Royals. He played his first game on Ebbets Field for the Brooklyn Dodgers. On April 15th 1947,
Robinson became the first black player to compete in the major leagues. From that day forward Rickey knew there was going to be a difficult journey for the young athlete. Since Rickey already knew this he made Robinson promise to not
fight back when problems occur.
Some of Robinson's teammates refused to have him as part of their team and contributed to the racial slurs. Robinson also endured threats to his family. During this time he lead the Royals to the leagues and was asked to play with for the Dodgers. He was now known as the first African American to play in the Major League Baseball.
Throughout Robinson's career he had many people defend his right to play as a baseball player and an athlete. Robinson ignored all the abuse and racial slurs, he
showed people his talents and wowed the crowd every time he played. During his
first year playing for the Dodgers he got 12 home runs and helped the Dodgers to win the National League
