The Jacksonian Era, which lasted from the late 1820s to the 1830s, was brimming with contradiction, especially with respect to the government. While the time period saw massive increases in voter participation and the development of the presidential campaign system, the administration continued to ‘kick the can’ of the ultimate injustice of the time period: slavery. Furthermore, the disparity between the wealthy industrialist or speculator and the poor grew larger still as a new class of opportunity-deprived people entered the scene: the immigrants.
