At the measly age of 14, Simmons, who was a student at Franklin High School, excelled on the football team whilst juggling his schoolwork and family issues; Jamar was an AVID student (educational program that prepares students for college) and maintained a 3.0-3.5 throughout his high school career.
Although it seems like Simmons had a very early upbringing, the reality is he had many struggles and hardships. As a student-athlete, Jamar had many obstacles such as procrastination, being dyslexic, and one of the largest impacts was his parents divorce.
