James A. Garfield is one of my favorite presidents. His story is a perfect example of rags to riches story. He was born as the youngest of five children all under the care of their single dirt poor mother. Because of these difficulties of growing up poor he had to really work hard to succeed in life. He started out working odd jobs such as being a janitor, a teacher , a house worker, and any other jobs available. Soon after he graduated from Williams College and studied law on his own time. He passed the Ohio state exam and soon join the political movement thereafter. Garfield was a republican , a member of his church called the “disciples of christ”, and a man who can sympathize with the poor population at the time. Garfield had a good history
