In James Michener’s Memoir, “The Rug Merchant” Zaqir’s arrogant and annoying character in the beginning to a trustworthy and man of his word towards the end, teaches the readers to not judge a charter by their first appearance with them. When Michener first meets Zaqir, he is taken aback by the salesman aggressive approach. Zaqir shows his annoying and pushy side by throwing carpets in front of Michener’s door. Michener says, “he could wear me down,” illustrating that he was annoyed by Zaqir arrogance.
