James Weldon Johnson, member of the Pace Phonography Company, was a part of a group that banned terrible artists from the Black Swan list, which contributed to the demise of African American owned firms. James W. Johnson and Langston Hughes were writers, as well as many others, who inspired people throughout their time. Johnson is best remembered for his leadership of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, (NAACP) where he started working in 1917 (The Famous People 2). He also was the first African American to pass the bar exam in Florida.
