Topic choice #1: Ingredients of an Artwork On page 15 of the Art appreciation book is a painting by an artist names Jan Van Eyck. His art piece is entitled The Ghent Altarpiece, c. 1432. This piece of artwork is currently being portrayed in the Church of St. Bavo, Ghent, Belgium. As I take a look at this piece of art I cannot help to be drawn to its magnitude of color, symbolism, and meaning. For this artwork the bodies and faces will create a line analysis to the center. By doing this, it will create a sense of empowerment to the king as well as to bring the viewers eyes to the center of the composition. Although, it is not necessary to have all eyes toward the middle, the subtlety of body and head angles has a major impact on the content of the composition. In order to further enhance the focal point, changing the size and configuration of the people in the composition we also bring attention to small detail. The bottom panel in the middle portrays a lamb sacrifice to the god above. There are a lot of people in this scene; therefore, everyone cannot be the same size as the individual people in the panels above. By making the people on the bottom smaller than the top creates a need for the viewer to take a closer look at the fine details.
