I chose Jan van Eyck’s painting the Man with a Red Turban finished in 1433. I felt this painting stood out the most to me among the others. I at first notice the bright red turban against the darker more subtle colors of the painting. Then I am drawn towards the man with the use of texture and light that Jan van Eyck used. The painter uses great detail to show the off the definitions of the face. The portrait in my opinion seems to be of someone who may have a bold character and wants to be noticed. The use of a red turban shows the person see’s themselves as important. Important enough to believe they would still be seen among the bright red. It is a very bold “look at me move.” With the use of the light it is as if the person had emerged
