Jane Porter is an American novelist popular for her series of women fiction and romance novels and novellas. Born in the small town of Visalia, California, Porter asserts that she is a small town girl. Having grown up in a small town she has grown to love the miles of farmland, oak trees, and Central Californian golden foothills. For this author, nothing beats the piquant scent of orange blossoms on a humid summer night. As a little girl she would spend hours on her bed staring out of her window dreaming of the princes and princesses in faraway lands, bold knights and happy ever after endings. Never the nerdy bookworm student, Porter had a very vivid imagination from a young age. She usually saw herself more as a Joan of Arc crusader, a magical fairy, or a princess.

While her schooling would require her to put on her geek costume from time to time, it was a trip to Europe, which completely changed Porters perspective. When she was 13, her parents took the whole family to Europe for a yearlong vacation. Most of her college and even high school years were spent studying in Ireland, Japan, and South Africa. South Africa became one of her favorite countries particularly it politics complex, the land, the people and the heart wrenching stories. After studying and traveling all over the world for a few years, she finally had to earn a living and settle down. She went on to work as a director of a nonprofit organization and in sales and marketing. Jane Porter was able to work in these jobs even though her American Studies Bachelors from UCLA focused on American history and American literature. She got her Masters in Writing from the University of San Francisco and later went on to teach high school and Jr. high School
