In “A Sick Child”, the tone is sympathetic; this is because we begin to recognize another person's emotional hardships and providing assurance and comfort. The use of diction uses of the words “suffering”, “hell”, “sick” and “tragic” which provides a gloomy and / or depressing tone to the passage. The words listed allow the reader to really listen in on the poet’s “voice”, because it’s set the tone of a very daunting atmosphere. Lastly, within the poem “Your Presence”, the ton is despairing - loss of all hope, but comes to realize she will be with her father in some time and shows some hope. The poetic devices that are most strongly used, is the use of imagery and symbolism. Within the poems “My Childhood Wish” and “Your Presence” the imagery heightens between these two passages. For example, in “My Childhood Wish” line number 15 states “…I’d run with him and feel the wind…” the importance appeals to the sense of touch and / or tactile sense - meaning that everyone needs someone to push them back up when they are feeling down and even if that person would turn out to become a pet. Similarly, in “A Sick Child” “…His recovery is their only wealth…”
