The main discord in the “Their Eyes Were Watching God” is Janie fighting herself. Janie recognizes society’s viewpoints concerning life which are, catch a man, get married, and remain with him until death do you part. These social beliefs are not what Janie wants, she is disappointed and a reluctant laborer to her husband, Logan Killicks. When Janie meets aspiring Joe Sparks, she believes her aspirations have come true. Consequently, she feels subjugated and furious by Joe’s authority. While her spouse evades his personal faults, he indicates all shortcoming Janie has. He is physically violent and mentally destructive to her. Joe controls Janie’s existence and forbids her everything he considers inappropriate for a politicians spouse. By way of Joe, dying, Janie, embarks on the realization of her independence. This woman by no means worries about what the townspeople believe, and is not beneath her husband’s servitude. She finally discovers happiness with a man and he values who she is. …show more content…
