The monuments are located between Via del Velabro and Via dei Cerchi. I arrived walking down the Lungotevere degli Anguillara, went on the Ponte Palatino bridge, walking down Lungotevere Aventino, down Vico Jugario, down Via di S. Giovanni Decollato, walked down Via Del Velabro to the entrance of the monument by the church. The monuments were about a 27-minute walk from Ginacolo Apartments. I arrived at the monuments at 11:28 AM on October 31st. The Arch of Janus was built in the 4th century AD and was built by Constantine I. The exact date of the construction is unknown but shards of pottery can be dated back to the 4th century. It was first believed by scholars to have been a temple to Janus. It is now believed to be built as a boundary marker and a ceremonial gate way for the entrance to the forum while still being dedicated to Janus. The Arch was also used as a place of business for bankers and merchants. It was built over two intersection roads where the markets met. Within the arch there in a door that in the past, led up to a attic that is believed to have been a place where money was exchanged. The monument although not in the greatest shape, has incredible detail that is visible. The monument was built with Greek marble and was also built with reused marble from older Roman ruins. For being such a hub of markets and business I thought it would be a little but bigger. I thought it was really interesting that it was used as a fortress and tried to imagine the tower placed above it. It is amazing to see that a monument can have so many uses. Its incredible to think that someone planned and built it. The time and effort that went into it is astounding. The builder even came up with the idea to build an attic with in the arch. I also got the impression that the attic must of gotten hot in the summer which is interesting that it was built over a huge
