After nearly 20 years of world peace WWII broke out in 1939. It was started by Adolf Hitler who decided to invaded Poland. The war dragged on for six years, until the Allied Forces defeated both Nazi Germany and Japan in 1945. With the advancement in technology WWII became one of the most devastating wars in history. Everything from planes to weapon had upgraded since WWI. Although the U.S. tried to stay out of the war, once again they played a major role in ending it. On December 7, 1941 the Japanese conducted a surprise attack on U.S. naval base Pearl Harbor. The out come of the attack was devastating. More than 2500 Americans died, and more than 1000 were wounded. On top of that the Japanese managed to damage nearly 20 naval vessels, and over 300 airplanes. A day after the sneak attack, President Franklin Roosevelt asked congress to declare war on Japan. On December 8, Congress approved Roosevelt’s request and just like that the U.S. had entered WWII. This only brought more death for the Japanese. On August 6, 1945 the U.S. changed the world completely with the atomic bomb. In response to Japans refusal, the U.S. dropped the worlds first atomic bomb on Hiroshima. On impact the bomb killed nearly 70,000 people. While another 200,000 people became victims of nuclear radiation. The bomb had also destroyed every building in a radius of 2.5 km. The mushroom cloud the explosion created could be seen for hours. After the first atomic bomb dropped president Truman issued a statement declaring the U.S. would launch more on Japan if they don’t agree to the terms. Once again Japan refused to agree to the terms of the peace treaty. Three days later the U.S. dropped the second atomic bomb on Nagasaki. The explosion cause killed 40,000 people instantly. Just like the first atomic bomb many more people fell victim to radiation. On August 15, 1945 Japan final surrendered, ending
