Over a year ago there was a case in Chicago that involved a police officer named Jason Van Dyke. This man was charged with the murder of a young 17 year old boy, Laquan McDonald of Chicago. Officer Jason Van Dyke shot and killed Laquan when he had knife out, but was Laquan was not approaching Dyke when he shot him and then emptied the sixteen round clip into him when he was already on the ground after the first bullet wound. This was all caught on video which explained it all. This case demonstrates the act of excessive (deadly) force on a person. The only time the use of deadly force is permitted is when the officer’s life is in danger or present danger to serious bodily injury. The use of deadly force is level 5 of the force that is allowed
