Sadly, millions of people are affected by suicide each year. Every forty seconds someone in the world dies by committing suicide. For people between the ages of fifteen and twenty-four years old, suicide is the second leading cause of death. Studies show that there are approximately one hundred and five Americans in the United States that die by suicide each day. As for people of all ages, suicide is the tenth leading cause of death in the U.S. The families of suicide victims have to live with this horrendous tragedy for the rest of their lives which can possibly lead to depression. Depression or other mood disorders play an immense role in a big percentage of all suicides. Thankfully there are many things that may be able to help a person’s depressed mind. For example, finding new hobbies such as painting or reading books may be comforting to people that suffer from suicidal thoughts.

There are many general warnings of potential suicide victims. Actions such as giving away personal possessions, lack of interest in their hobbies, and isolation from friends or family members may be early signs of someone who is suicidal. Stress due to new situations such as moving to a new school or participating in rigorous activities all at once may be a risk factor of suicidal thoughts as well. The top predictors for suicide are diagnosable mental conditions, substance abuse, loss of social support, and also having access to a firearm.
