Last Thursday I attended the Jazz Concert with guest artist, Tony Miceli. For the first song five guys came out on stage. The five instruments being played were the piano, drums, trumpet, and the double bass. The fifth instrument I was not able to recognize, but through research it seemed to me most like the a marimba. They were all positioned very close together, I assume for the best sound. The song was called Secret Love and it lasted a very long time, about 10 minutes. During the duration of the 10 minutes my opinion was that the song was similar the whole time. It was all fast paced and all of the five guys seemed to play the song the same through. The only time it changed was when an instrument stopped or started playing. The instrument I noticed the least in this piece was the double bass since it has a low sound and the other four instruments could be played with higher pitches and sounds. …show more content…
This song was a lot slower and quieter. I enjoyed it more because it was peaceful and soothing in the beginning. Although towards the middle/end the marimba became louder and it became a little less enjoyable for me. I was not able to catch the name of this piece. The third and final song the five guys played was similar to the first. It was loud and fast pace again. Some of the parts sounded familiar, especially when the trumpet took over and played louder than the rest of the instruments.
